IOCOM has added WebRTC to its line of Windows, Macintosh, Linux, Android and iOS video collaboration clients. The addition will provide IOCOM customers and partners another option for consuming the exceptional Visimeet service.
WebRTC is an API (application program interface) standard that enables real-time voice, text and video communication capabilities. It puts real time audio and visual communication capabilities into a standard browser without the need for an application download, plugins or Flash. With many trends towards working at home along with "bring your own device" (BYOD), WebRTC will be a key growth driver of everyday video collaboration for many workers.
Consistent with the goals of Visimeet for simplicity and consistency of the user interface, the IOCOM WebRTC implementation matches the look, feel and capability of the desktop client. The same intuitive interface, multiple independently sizable video windows, independently controllable audio and collaboration tools are available. This provides a familiar look and feel across the various platforms, eliminating the need for re-training and reducing any confusion.
The WebRTC client will have very similar capabilities as the application clients without the need to install. Users can have an open tab within their Chrome or Firefox web browser application and toggle between web sites, applications and their Visimeet WebRTC client.
The common interface, with the same capabilities, was identified as a key design element from the beginning. "The inherent flexibility that has been designed into the software provides a cross platform solution that is consistent across Windows, Macintosh and Linux systems for both our installed clients as well as our WebRTC users," stated Jon Swanson, CTO for IOCOM. "Being able to hold multipoint, multi video sessions is critical to having truly productive meetings."
Visimeet's use of a server controlled interface makes this common interface possible and also enables integration into third party systems very simple. IOCOM partners can simply modify the interfaces on all systems by changing the image files that are located on the server. These changes are then applied across all clients without the need for separate or unique installers. These changes apply to the WebRTC interface as well as the installed applications providing for a single point to change the look of all endpoints.
